Lucia suddenly wanted to walk on her own tonight, after walking around the house holding onto people's hands for weeks. She just turned 13 months yesterday, so maybe that was her motivation!

Pick a purple pepper

Last week we had the joy of picking our first garden-ripe purple pepper from the back yard. Savannah got so excited she started wanting to pick everything that was growing back there, so I had to attempt to explain to her why that is not a good idea. The girls have been working on their sharing, which sometimes goes really well, and sometimes they just fight (which is apparently something that sisters are good at). Savannah had so much fun sharing her popsicle with Lucy that it almost made me want to cry. She has taken to singing "Lucia in the sky with diamonds" whenever Lucy starts crying....she's a good big sister! Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Lucy is starting to fight back, so Savannah can't get away with quite as much. :) Now we just have to get ready for Lucy's big birthday next weekend!

Ah, to be a kid

So I was in the middle of cleaning a poopy diaper today when I hear the best laugh coming out of Lucia's mouth in her bedroom. I had put her in her bed thinking she might fall asleep, but instead I hear Savannah in there, pushing around the crib and chasing Lucy from one side of the crib to the other. It was adorable!

I was hoping to have a video to post, but it's not working at the moment, so instead you get this cute picture of Savannah in her Winnie the Pooh shirt she got at a garage sale last week. :)

Welcome

Finally, the Chalens have made it into the world of blogging, and now we just hope we can keep up with it all. On this blog, we will share with you some of the every day joys, laughs, and possible frustrations that our family of four goes through. At this point and time, things are quiet in our household....as in the girls are finally sleeping, Justin has headed to bed, and I (Elizabeth) am hoping to get a little bit of work done for my doula certification. Somehow another weekend has passed us by, and we are into August already. I am not sure how that happened, but the summer is flying by! We are getting ready to celebrate Lucia's first birthday on the 14th of this month, and she is really growing fast. She is pulling herself up on everything she can find, giving sloppy, open-mouthed kisses to everyone and is trying to play with big sister Savannah more and more. Sometimes Savannah goes along with it, and sometimes she doesn't. It's hard being the big sister and actually having to share things! Savannah and Justin had this interaction the other day while Justin was getting out of the shower:
Savannah: "Knock Knock"
Justin: "Who's there?"
Savannah: "Savannah"
Justin: "Savannah who?"
Savannah: "Savannah Chalen!"  Which was then followed by her running around the house saying "Savannah Chalen, Savannah Chalen, Savannah Chalen!" It was the cutest thing ever, and neither of us had ever directly told her that was her name, so all we could come up with was that she has heard things like "Savannah Ruby Chalen, don't push your sister over!" enough times that she figured it out. One smart cookie, huh?
